Driving Directions to Trailhead

From Palisades Visitor Center, take a right out of the parking lot. Almost immediately (.1 miles down the road) take a left into the Mount Bigelow Trailhead parking lot.

Hike Overview

The hike begins in a shaded glen and ascends Mount Bigelow through a series of switchbacks. At the junction with Butterfly Trail #16, near a saddle, bare left to stay on Mount Bigelow Trail. The trail will ride the ridge and views will become more frequent as you continue to ascend. As you continue to climb you’ll pass another junction which will be your route down.

Continue straight until you reach a gravel road, with buildings and radio towers. This is the top! Turn right and follow the road around the top of Mount Bigelow and take in the views. On the other side, you’ll see a small parking lot and trailhead sign for Butterfly Trail. To your right, just below the road you’ll pick up the trail and descend. Soon this path will junction with the trail you came in on. Take a left and continue down the mountain back to your vehicle.
